Blog #4 :AGO

Hi, I’m Junsei Goseki. This time I’ll introduce the Frank Gehry’s latest work,
‘Art Gallery of Ontario’, which people usually call it ‘AGO’ in short.
It is located in Toronto, ON M5T 1G4, Canada.
I can see China town and Victoria University near this museum on the Geogle Map and it’s really attractive to me, To imagine that we have such a beautiful art museum near our university, it’s so wonderful.

This has been used for museum since it was opened in 1900.
In November 2008, it was under construction for expansion of building and Frank
Gehry was assigned to take charge of this project.
Though Frank was born in Toronto, this was his first work in Canada, this is also his latest work. It’s reopened in November 2008, it took only 3days that sixty eight thousand people visited here with the service that offered free-charge admission and extended its open hours.

About exhibitions, AGO is famous for its abundant collections of Canadian art, Inuit and Native art from past and present. For other representative art works, there are Henry Moore, who was a British sculptor, Picasso and European art.

I think it’s a great collection of works by great artists and the building itself is also a beautiful work, so it’s compilation of great art works.

As I see pictures of inside and outside appearance of this museum, tough I don’t know much about it, it seems to be resourcefully built that we’ve learned in a lecture during our class. Because it seems that they used simple and common steel and wood frames for design. Of course I think they’re sound and also beautiful.

I’m thinking I’ll go to Canada to study next year. I’m not sure yet about it but if I chose to go Toronto, I would never miss a chance to go here.

Blog #3: Election in Greece

Hi, I'm Saori Nakagawa. On June 17, Greece's government will hold election. I suppose that all of you know the nation is facing financial crisis, and it is causing the big problem in the euro zone. The election will be held between the one party in Greece which claims to keep financial austerity as ever and the other which claims to take austerity away. The result of this election could change the future of EU, especially the nations in Europe which have been helping Greece financially, thus people all over the world are paying much attention to it. I think that the election could affect Japanese economic as well as European one, so Japanese people should keep an eye on this event more carefully.

#2: Tokyo Skytree

Hi, I’m Junsei. This week, I went to Tokyo Skytree.
It was very crowded regardless of weekdays, though it was surely the highest building what I’ve ever seen in Japan.
I took the route from Oshiage Station to get Tokyo Skytree on foot.
It’s a great view to see the tower when you go up from the stairs of the station.
We still can feel an atmosphere of Shitamachi even though this modern building showed up there.
Off course, I didn’t have the reservation for entering the tower, I just did shopping around there. I really felt Skytree can be a good sightseeing area for tourists because it’s near Asakusa which is so famous for tourists and I really want to introduce this place if I have guests from foreign countries.

Sky Tree photo from Oshiage Station.

If you take a route from Oshiage Station to Skytree, you can see this strange building.
When I saw it in the first place, I guessed it was a museum.
But it was not. Answer is here. Before you check the answer, let's guess what it is!

Blog#1: My favourite restaurant

Hi, I'm Saori Nakagawa. I'm going to introduce one of my favourite restaurants. The restaurant is named somuo and serves various Thai and Vietnamese foods. I went to there around a month ago and ordered three dishes, salad, Thai noodle and Green carry. All of them were very very hot but very tasty. Besides, the performance of the waitstaffs was pretty good, and the interior made us feel as if we had been in South Asia truly.
If you want to enjoy Thai and Vietnamese foods, I recommend you the restaurant!

Blog#1: Memories of this GW

Hello, I'm Kyoko Hasegawa. I'm going to talk about memories of this Golden Week. I spent GW on traveling Karuizawa in Nagano with my friends and old men of a badminton circle for three days. Though it was hot in Tokyo, it was pleasantly cool in Karuizawa, and very comfortable for travel. We stayed with a cottage which my friend reserved in advance. There was nothing around the cottage, and it was so clean and wide, that we could be noisy and talked about circle activity, new works of old men and our part time job the First day. Second day of the traveling, we went to Tariasen in Karuizawa. We could play boat, tennis and soap bubbles there and we enjoyed those things as if we went back when we were children. In that night, we enjoyed a barbecue out of cotage. Men made a fire outside and we cut vegetables in cottage. We drank talking about memories of that travel.  After that, we set off fireworks. They were very beautiful, and the best memory of that trip. I'm looking forward to go on trip with them again.

Blog#1 My Favorite Izakaya

Hi, I'm Junsei Goseki. This time I want to talk about my favorite izakaya.
I often go drinking with my friends in izakaya and have useless talks for a long time, though sometimes it's serious talks.
My favorite izakaya is 'Wara-Wara' . I think it's cheap and drinks are good, they also have a wide variety of food. It usually cost me only about 3,000yen to drink and eat for 3hours. 'Wara-Wara' has a large number of stores in Tokyo, we can see them in each station, so it's really convenient to get it. Here is a link to Wara-Wara. Wara-Wara

I also like 'Sekaino-Yamachan'. They have so many kinds of drinks and I enjoyed its unique name, for instance,  a 'Black Devil' and they have many other unique names. It's famous for really nice Fried Chicken Wings.  I was moved when I ate them, they were really nice and spicy a bit, so they have perfect combination to drink!
If you got some interests with it, you can check it out here. Sekaino-Yamachan
And if you go there with a person having a name like Yamazaki, Yamakawa, you may be more excited.
Because I went there with my friends and one of them was Yamazaki and his face looked like a picture of 'Yamachan' , it was funny.

Anyway, 'drinking with someone' I think is important in Japan. Though go drinking with my friends is always a great time, go drinking with my boss may be hard time for me if I get a job.

If you have a favorite izakaya, please tell me. No bar, because I don't like a bar!

Sorry for no picture.

My Golden Week

Hi, I'm Junsei. This is my first post and I'll write about my Golden Week.

I went to Izu, Atagawa with my friends during the Golden Week.
As you know, the first day on Wednesday was a terrible weather and I had to drive a car from Mejiro station to Izu because I was only one who had a driver license.
I don't know how nervous I would be during driving the car in such a bad weather, I was just tired!
We enjoyed a hot spring there and I think we can proud of Japanese hot springs. It's so beautiful.
I recommend this place to you for a good hot spring trip.

This is when I went to watch a baseball game on the weekend beforethe GW, I was surprised to see this amazingly wide space in Tokyo Dome.
Giants vs Tigers. I like Hanshin, but they lost the game. It's so crowded. It's so fun tough I felt tired
